TOWER OF DUDES
The Tower of Dudes?
The Tower of Dudes aren’t just your average East meets West gypsy punk accordion rock band. Their lively stage presence and shotgun delivery definitely inspire frenzied dancing and reckless abandon. But it’s their expansive repertoire of original songs that set them apart from other acts mining traditional folk music, and make them a band for almost any occasion and any venue, from the bars and community halls of Vancouver Island, to major festival stages all over the world. They have recorded three full-length albums, two EPs and have been featured on a number of compilations. The Tower of Dudes has toured Europe, Western USA and Western Canada and has a number of YouTube music videos with thousands of views.
The most recent incarnation of ToD incorporates accordion, vibraphone, guitars and mandolin along with a driving rhythm section to create a unique and interesting sound. From Rifflandia in Victoria to The Trutnov Music Festival in The Czech Republic, audiences all over have a great time with the Tower of Dudes.
What Folks are Saying…
“The occult side of what defines rock and roll lurks within the lyrics…the words of wisdom offered by the Tower of Dudes is a benediction.”
– Ed Sum, Absolute Undergournd 2018
“While the Tower of Dudes’ upbeat tunes such as “Party Like You Used to Could” and “Lower Shelf Taste” got the near-capacity crowd dancing, it was the band’s quieter songs that provided the evening’s standout moments. “Pretty Special”, an embittered and reflective take on narcissism, showcased Joel Fernandes’ subtle guitar mastery and the honest lament of “Morning” proved a perfect, albeit mournful, end to the Dudes’ stellar set.”
– Nicholas Lyons, EXCLAIM! (Canada) 2014
“The Tower of Dudes have traversed the globe, adding eastern scales to their gypsy punk and inventing time signaturees on the spot. Based in Victoria, BC and sometimes in Prague, CZ they have captured their life on the road on the new album Make Your Own Culture is what says on the tin: fiercely independent, singing about dead end jobs (Morning), so-so products (Lower Shelf Taste) and having fun at the same time (the instrumental Let It Go). A great bar band that can reach the back of the crowd at of an outdoor festival as well.”
– Hans Werksman, Here Comes The Flood (Netherlands), 2014
